Weekly Highlights for January 15, 2018

I know January feels like settling into the deep freeze of winter and all we want is cozy blankets, a warm fire and the latest series on Netflix. Although Netflix is fairly inexpensive-library materials come at an even better price-FREE.  In case you didn’t know, the county library funding actually comes from materials checked out.  The more items you check out, the more funding libraries get-especially if you live in a township.  When your child hopes they can check out the big stack of books they found and they keep adding more, you are actually helping us move forward as a library.  Don’t forget to grab a puzzle to check out too in case you just want to hunker down and stay in the house all weekend!

Time ticks away fast so I want you to know Valentine’s Day will be here soon. Although many think it’s just a Hallmark holiday, there is always something special about giving a homemade card to remind our friends and family of how much they mean to us.  We have a Card Workshop on February 1st, 6 pm.  All materials will be supplied and this class is open to novices and experts alike. Snacks will also be provided.  Please call the library to register, for ages 16 and up.

Story Time: Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:30-11:15 am.  Story times include calendar fun, songs, rhymes, stories and crafts.  Themes for January are Snowmen, Bilingual Spanish/English, Winter and Artic Animals.  Brittany has been working on some great things to add for story time.  This program is best suited for ages four and under.

Paws to Read: January 30th, 3:30-5:30 pm.  Julie and Ole will be back at the library for your student to come in and read a favorite book to.  Ole is a trained therapy dog and part of the organization of Paws to Read.

Teen Advisory Board: for grades 6-12.  Contact Brittany at fahrenkamp@robertspubliclibrary.org or visit our website to find out how to apply.

Movie Matinee: Monday, January 15th, 1 pm.  Leap, PG will be the movie and popcorn will be served.

Job Center: Wednesday, January 17th, 10-12 pm.  Come in to get professional help on your resumes, cover letters, computer applications or interviewing skills.

Lego Club: Saturday, January 20th 10:30-11:30 am.  Legos are provided and kids love to see their creations displayed in our Lego Cabinets.

A Novel Idea Book Club: Monday, January 29th, 5:30 pm at Bobtown Brewhouse.  This month we will be discussing The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah.

Card Making Workshop: Thursday, February 1st, 5:30 pm.  If you are an amateur or an expert, come join us for a fun night of crafting and appetizers.  Please call the library to register for this fun class.

Senior Coffee and Cookies: every Friday, 10-12 pm.  This is a fantastic way to come together and enjoy conversations, play some games and find out about what is going on in our community.  What I love most about this group is the comradery that they have.  Some people have lived here for decades and others have moved here to be by family and grandkids.  It’s been great to see friendships develop and fellowship thrive.

Stitchers: this group meets every Wednesday, 12:30-3 pm.

Crocheters and Knitters:  this group meets every Thursday, 2:15-5 pm.

These wonderful groups of crafters bring in their projects and enjoy conversations while getting things done.  Our classes that we have offered has given people skills that they are actually using and it is amazing to see the beautiful projects people create!

Strong Seniors: this group meets every Tuesday and Thursday, 1-2 pm.  Chair workouts are done with light hand weights.  In this cold season, come on in to get your body moving!

The parking lot fundraiser is ongoing and the Library Board is currently working toward raising $83,253 to pay off the extended lot and prepare the way for pavement. Your gift would help us provide safe parking for those who attend our growing programs.
