Hazel Mackin Community Library

December 2020

Well, hello! It’s been awhile since our last update. As is probably true for your lives as well, the library has been a little crazy lately, trying to keep up with health mandates and finding new ways to serve our patrons and the community. As always, we are here to help and happy to work with you in any way we can. The building is still closed to the public, but our staff is here to do curbside every day! Just call us to request items or schedule a curbside pickup appointment.

This holiday season looks different, but the sentiment is the same. Perhaps this year more than any other, we should reflect on what we are grateful for (and enjoy all those wonderful treats even more!). We are grateful for the continued health of our team, and the fantastic community we work in.

We are pleased to announce that starting January 11th, the Hazel Mackin Community will have a new director, Tori Schoess! Below is a message from her:

“Hello! As 2020 wraps up, I am excited to ring in the new year as the new library director at HMCL. While we may not be able to meet in person right now, I thought I would share a little bit about me in the meantime. My family and I are relocating to Wisconsin from the Quad Cities (IL) where I am originally from. My husband, Daniel, was actually born in New Richmond and has family in the Twin Cities so he is familiar with the area. We have a 16 month old son, Levi, who is always on the go and into everything. In my spare time I really enjoy spending time with my family, anything craft related, and spin class. I am really looking forward to meeting all of you and getting to know the Roberts/Warren community.

Happy Holidays and Best Wishes for 2021,

Tori”

She also sent along a picture of her and her family, which is attached at the bottom of this email. We are very excited to welcome Tori to our team and our community!

This fall was the 10th anniversary of our building! We are so grateful to be here in such a lovely building, and hopefully we’ll be able to celebrate this milestone in person soon! In the meantime, we are commemorating by giving out our most recent cookbook to anyone who checks out 10 or more items. Just a small thank you from us here at the library for your continued to support!

If you’re on Facebook, you may have seen that we introduced a new service, Library Kits! We know that many of our patrons enjoy browsing our collection in person, so this is a way to get a variety of books on a subject/by a certain author hand picked by librarians. Who knows, you may discover a new author you like or even a new favorite book! Themes are constantly rotating and changing, and we are happy to take requests. A list of our initial kit themes is included in an image at the bottom of the email, and we’ve also been putting together Christmas and winter themed kits.

Check out our Facebook page and website for frequent updates! We post pictures of new items and happenings in the library on Facebook, and both sites have the most up-to-date information.

TL;DR: We are doing curbside pickup appointments, we have a new director starting in January, check our Facebook and website for daily updates, and Happy Holidays!
